Overview

The clinical Educator/Unit Based Educator, under the supervision of their manager and/or Director and in collaboration with the specialty department leadership teams, is responsible for facilitating educational courses for internal and external customers. The education programs and other educational initiatives will be based on current evidence based/research (EBP) and incorporating guidelines. This role will support the education department based on specialty units/departments by facilitating education opportunities and onboarding processes through mentoring, EBP, ANCC, research, quality, and process improvement to improve patient satisfaction, colleague engagement, healthy work environment, standard processes, patient safety, patient outcomes, and cost savings strategies.

Responsibilities

Operations
* Maintains and operates education courses, skills labs, and use of simulation for staff.

Facilitation
* Supports onboarding orientation and education programs, skills labs, use of simulation for all colleagues.

 

Colleague Development
* Works with students, new colleagues, and hospital staff through mentoring, incorporating use of EBP and ANCC guidelines to promote staff engagement, staff teamwork, patient safety, and quality.

Coordination
* Coordinates educational opportunities for colleagues as determined by education department.

 

Compliance/Safety
* Stays current and complies with state and federal regulations/statutes and company policies that impact the employees area of responsibility.

* If required for position, ensures all certifications and/or licenses are up-to-date and valid prior to expiration dates.

* Completes all company mandatory modules and required job specific training in the specified time frame.

* Responsible for reporting any safety related incident in a timely fashion through the Midas/RDE tool; attends all safety related training programs; performs work in a safe manner; monitors work environment for possible safety issues and ensures others are also performing work in a safe manner.

Qualifications

Education
High School Diploma or GED- Required

BSN or MSN- Preferred

 


Certification & Licensures

Active, unrestricted, Arizona RN License- Required
BLS (American Heart Assoc.)- Required

 

Critical Care – ICUs & PCUs:
Active, unrestricted, Arizona RN License- Required
BLS (American Heart Assoc.)- Required
ACLS (American Heart Assoc.) – Required
ATCN – Required within 1 year
NIHSS – Required within 30 days
CCRN or PCCN – Required within 1 year of hire

 

Emergency Department:
Active, unrestricted, Arizona RN License- Required
BLS (American Heart Assoc.)- Required
ACLS (American Heart Assoc.) – Required
ATCN – Required within 1 year of hire
NIHSS – Required within 30 days of hire
PALS or ENPC – Required

 

L&D and Post- Partum:
Active, unrestricted, Arizona RN License- Required
BLS (American Heart Assoc.)- Required
Intermediate Fetal Heart Monitoring- Required within 90 days
Advanced Fetal Heart Monitoring- Required within 90 days
NRP – Required within 90 days

 

Med Surg/Telemetry:
Active, unrestricted, Arizona RN License- Required
BLS (American Heart Assoc.)- Required
ACLS (American Heart Assoc.) – Required
NIHSS – Required within 30 days for Stroke units

 

Operating Room:
Active, unrestricted, Arizona RN License- Required
BLS (American Heart Assoc.)- Required
ACLS (American Heart Assoc.) – Required within 90 days

 

Peds/PICU:
Active, unrestricted, Arizona RN License- Required
BLS (American Heart Assoc.)- Required
PALS or ENPC – Required
ATCN – Required within 1 year of hire

Active, unrestricted, Arizona RN License- Required

Experience
Minimum of three years experience in specialty area - Required

 

Previous education/teaching experience - Preferred

 

Healthcare is a rapidly changing environment and technology is integrated into almost all aspects of patient care. Computers and other electronic devices are utilized across the organization and throughout each department. Colleagues must have an understanding of computers, and competence in using computers and basic software programs.
