Overview

The GAT Education Coordinator-Flight RN renders highly skilled and professional emergency care during all duties associated with flight Registered Nurse function. S/he functions as a professional role model to the hospital community and region. This person will be caring for patients from neonate, infant, child, adolescent, adult and the geriatric age groups. This person must have the knowledge and skills to care for the physical and developmental needs of these populations, and must be capable of recognizing and treating life-threatening emergencies within the bounds of flight Registered Nurse standards of care. S/he will have the clinical expertise to administer skills, critical decision making and safe practice even under adverse conditions. S/he must be able to function independent of medical control on scene or when communication is difficult. This individual coordinates and provides education for GAT staff including, but not limited to, Skills Labs, Human Patient Simulator training, and Didactic training. S/he also coordinates and assists with new hire academy, remedial training, and skill assessment of clinicians. S/he coordinates and provides outreach education for outlying EMS, clinics and hospitals. With the approval of the GAT Director and/or Clinical Manager, the Education Coordinator may be asked to work collaboratively with NAH education, Trauma Services or GMT to provide loop closure education to our referral partners within the region.

Responsibilities

Patient Care
* Assesses the needs and conditions of assigned patients by gathering relevant patient health information.

* Proficient in life saving interventions, including but not limited to, advanced airway management, endotracheal Intubation, ventilator management, and chest decompression.

* Strong fundamental knowledge of pharmacological agents and ability to safely administer all medications including, but not limited to, vasoactive medications, sedatives, and paralytics.

* Functions with a high level of autonomy providing critical care to patients of every age group and specialty as needed (e.g. adult critical care, pediatric critical care, high risk obstetrics).


Communication
* Accepts assignments to satellite bases of operation as called upon and when needed.

* Inspects and assures all equipment and supplies are present and in proper working condition on the aircraft and at the base daily and following each transport.

* Responsible for reporting and returning broken equipment to appropriate facility for repair.

* Works in collaboration with a variety of personnel, such as GAT employees, referring and receiving hospital staff, and EMS.

* Promotes Guardian Air at PR events and in routine interactions with community, hospital staff, EMS, patients and family.


Documentation
* Documents care provided in the EMR in accordance with QA parameters.
Education
* Keeps abreast of trends in pre-hospital, emergency, critical care, perinatal and pediatric medicine.

* Working knowledge of aviation and safely functions as a crew member on Fixed and Rotor Wing aircraft.

* Maintains all required certifications and required training for clinical practice and aviation.

* Develops and provides education to GAT staff via Human Patient Simulator Scenarios, Didactic Education, Run Review Presentations, and Web Based Material.

* Develops and provides outreach Education as requested.


Compliance/Safety
* Responsible for reporting any safety related incident in a timely fashion through the Midas/RDE tool; attends all safety related training programs; performs work in a safe manner; monitors work environment for possible safety issues and ensures others are also performing work in a safe manner.

* Ensures all certifications and/or licenses are up-to-date and valid prior to expiration dates.

* Completes all company mandatory modules and required job specific training in the specified time frame.

* Maintains at least one base responsibility or committee.

Qualifications

Education
Associate Degree in Nursing- Required
Must enroll in a BSN program within one year of hire and complete within 5 years of hire.

 


Certification & Licensures
Active, unrestricted, Arizona RN License - Required

 

BLS (American Heart Assoc.), ACLS and PALS- Required

 

ACLS, BLS, PALS Instructor certifications- Required within (1) year of hire

 

NRP- Required within 6 months

 

Advanced education in area of expertise with one (1) of the following certifications: RNC, CEN, CFRN, CCRN- Required within (1) year of hire

 

Transport Professional Advanced Trauma (TPATC) or Advanced Trauma Care for Nurses (ATCN) course- Required within one (1) year of hire

 

STABLE course- Required within one (1) year of hire

 

Current Driver’s license in the state in which they reside with no moving violations within prior 36 months- Required

 

TPATC / ATCN Instructor- Preferred

 


Experience
Three (3) years of critical care experience- Required (A combination of Emergency, ICU or High Risk Labor and Delivery)

 

Two (2) years previous flight experience- Preferred

 

 

Healthcare is a rapidly changing environment and technology is integrated into almost all aspects of patient care. Computers and other electronic devices are utilized across the organization and throughout each department. Colleagues must have an understanding of computers, and competence in using computers and basic software programs.
