Overview

The Nursery Care Technician in the Special Care Nursery, under the supervision of the charge nurse, clinical manager, and/or director is primarily responsible for assisting in patient care, documentation and supply management. They will perform or assist with procedures that fall within the scope of practice of a Nursery Technician in the Special Care Nursery in addition to performing necessary administrative duties. The Nursery Care Technician may be assisting infants, children, adolescents, adults and geriatrics.

Responsibilities

Patient Care
* Maintains department cleanliness including cleaning patient bedsides after discharge, infant and Family Room linen, NICU specific equipment and clean up after procedures.

* Maintains and ensures that all NICU specific equipment is in working order.

* Assists in transporting patients, equipment and supplies.

* Maintains and ensures unit stocking of supplies.

* Performs newborn hearing screens and makes outpatient referrals when appropriate.

* Helps with admits, transfers and discharges.

* Logs and receives mothers' breast and/or donor milk into electronic documentation system.

* Assist with infant cares when appropriate; diapering, feeding, bathing, etc.

* Performs lab draws within scope.


Documentation
* Completes a timely and thorough Developmental assessment per standard time frames using Inter-Disciplinary Profile, documents assessments and updates information.

* Documents interventions, patient response to interventions and any changes in patient's condition/status in electronic medical record.

* Develops and implements IOP process to monitor outcomes.

* Makes appropriate referrals.

* Utilizes pain scale in pain assessments


Compliance/Safety
* If required for position, ensures all certifications and/or licenses are up-to-date and valid prior to expiration dates.

* Completes all company mandatory modules and required job specific training in the specified time frame.

* Stays current and complies with state and federal regulations/statutes and company policies that impact the employee's area of responsibility.

* Responsible for reporting any safety related incident in a timely fashion through the Midas/RDE tool; attends all safety related training programs; performs work in a safe manner; monitors work environment for possible safety issues and ensures others are also performing work in a safe manner.

* Remains current on unit/cluster practice guidelines as appropriate.

* Complies with all Infant Security policies and practices.

Qualifications

Education
High School Diploma or equivalent (GED) or a minimum of two years related or qualifying experience - Required

 

Graduate of a Nursing Assistant Program - Required

 


Certification & Licensures
Current, unrestricted CNA or LNA license in good standing in the State of Arizona- Required

 

Basic Life Support (BLS) - Required

 

Employee will obtain and maintain appropriate clinical competencies for the roles assigned by their departmental leader.

 


Experience
Healthcare is a rapidly changing environment and technology is integrated into almost all aspects of patient care. Computers and other electronic devices are utilized across the organization and throughout each department. Colleagues must have an understanding of computers, and competence in using computers and basic software programs.
