Overview

The Pharmacy Technician 3 Outpatient performs technical, clerical, and distributive pharmacy functions under the direction of a licensed pharmacist. S/he is cross-trained and able to perform the duties of every support staff position including, but not limited to, input, fill, and point of sale system. The Pharmacy Technician 3 Outpatient will support the outpatient pharmaceutical buyer and management with any other duties assigned.

 

This position's work location is on site only.

Responsibilities

Patient Care
* Demonstrates the ability to utilize pharmacy technology products such as electronic health records, automated dispensing machines, and unit dosing.

* Serves as a resource to the pharmacy team in order to provide safe and effective patient care.

* Performs prescription order entry and basic calculations for order processing with accuracy.

* Participates in process improvement projects aimed at providing safe and effective pharmacy services to patients.

* Provides general assistance and support by filling orders, data entry, answering phones, preparing labels, assisting at point of sale, assisting with Cardinal order and others.

* Communicates with patient care units to ensure efficient medication discharge delivery.

* Provides training and assistance to new pharmacy staff hires.

* Performs compunding and repackaging activities in accordance with pharmacy guidelines (USP 795, local, State, and Federal rules and regulations).

* Communicate with patients to provide an update on prescription status when issues are encountered.

* Submits electronic orders to request prescription refills or prior authorization assistance

 

Administrative
* Able to perform and provide direction to Pharmacy Technician 2 and trainees in patient care essential job functions.

* Assists new technicians with their orientation and training.

* Demonstrates leadership skills in ability to delegate tasks to Pharmacy Technician 2 and Trainees.

* Operates a multi-line telephone device, monitors fax requests, reviews voicemail messages, responds to emails.

* Processes, submits, receives and distributes wholesale orders.

* Audits and tracks inventory to help prevent excess, correct discrepancies, remove expired items.

* Collaborates with the department manager, lead pharmacist, and other pharmacy staff on all aspects of quality improvement of pharmacy services.

* Support maintain overt the counter section.

* Participates and completes any projects assigned.

* Maintains knowledge of downtime procedures.

* Implements and evaluates the use of new technologies, department policies and procedures.

 

Compliance/Safety
* Stays current and complies with state and federal regulations/statutes and company policies that impact the employees area of responsibility.

* If required for position, ensures all certifications and/or licenses are up-to-date and valid prior to expiration dates.

* Completes all company mandatory modules and required job specific training in the specified time frame.

* Responsible for reporting any safety related incident in a timely fashion through the Midas/RDE tool; attends all safety related training programs; performs work in a safe manner; monitors work environment for possible safety issues and ensures others are also performing work in a safe manner.

Qualifications

Education
 High School Diploma or GED - Required


Certification & Licensures
 Arizona State Board of Pharmacy - Pharmacy Technician License - Required

 

Certified by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board - Required


Experience
2 years of pharmacy technician experience - Required

 

Healthcare is a rapidly changing environment and technology is integrated into almost all aspects of patient care. Computers and other electronic devices are utilized across the organization and throughout each department. Colleagues must have an understanding of computers, and competence in using computers and basic software programs.
