Overview

 The Plant Operator 2nd Class provides skills involved with the operation of all utility systems at Northern Arizona Healthcare to ensure a safe and secure environment.

Responsibilities

Equipment Management
* Maintains, operates, and repairs all boilers and auxiliary equipment to produce steam for heat, sterilization, humidification, and domestic hot water.

* Maintains, operates, and repairs all chillers and auxiliary equipment necessary to produce chilled water and provide cooling to the hospital.

* Performs the chemical tests to all boilers, closed loops, condensate systems, condenser systems, feed waters systems, and pools making adjustments to these systems according to established protocols and guidelines.

* Maintains, operates, and repairs all pneumatic tube system components.

* Performs maintenance as required by the PM program or as directed.

* Maintains and operates all medical gas systems and auxiliary equipment necessary to provide continuous supply of medical gas to the hospital.

* Performs chemical treatment as required.

* Demonstrates ability to perform mechanical and electrical troubleshooting.

* Assists HVAC Technicians and other Plant Operators with specific repairs as required.

* Performs emergency procedures in order to provide continuous service of all utility systems feeding the hospital in the event of one or more system failures under the direction of supervision.

* Performs maintenance and keeps appropriate records for equipment that has had corrective maintenance and/or preventative maintenance.

* Site specific responsibilities may include oversight of department safety program.

 
Project Management
* Assists in the adhering of regulatory requirements.

* Provides assistance with the coordination of contractors labor as needed for projects.

* Assists in the overseeing minor construction/ mechanical projects.

* Assists in maintaining ICRA (Infection Control Risk Assessment) Standards.

* Provides assistance in adhering to ILSM (Interim Life Safety Measures)

 
Financial Management
* Assists in maintaining appropriate records and preparing requisitions for each assignment.

* Assists in the adhering of cost containment programs.

 
Mentor
* Mentors the Plant Operator 3rd Class positions.

* Site specific responsibilities may include Life Safety training at department meetings.
 
Compliance/Safety
* Responsible for reporting any safety related incident in a timely fashion through the Midas/RDE tool; attends all safety related training programs; performs work in a safe manner; monitors work environment for possible safety issues and ensures others are also performing work in a safe manner.

* Stays current and complies with state and federal regulations/statutes and company policies that impact the employees area of responsibility.

* If required for position, ensures all certifications and/or licenses are up-to-date and valid prior to expiration dates.

* Completes all company mandatory modules and required job specific training in the specified time frame.

* Site specific responsibilities may include EOC reporting, hazards responding, oversight of DNV compliance documentation, coordination of annual fire inspections and documentation management of Life Safety PM's.

Qualifications

Education
High School Diploma or GED- Required

 

Steam Plant Operation/ Equivalent Trade School or Apprenticeship- Required

 

Water Chemistry Treatment Course/ Equivalent Training- Preferred

 

Instrumentation/ Controls Training (Any course which involves the setup, calibration or troubleshooting of Common Sensors, Transducers and Instrumentation Systems.)- Preferred

 

Certification & Licensures
Valid AZ Drivers License with no moving violations for the previous 39 months- Required

 

EPA Certification/ Universal- Preferred

 

Refrigerant Handling Certification- Preferred

 

NFPA 101, 99 Certification- Preferred


Experience
Minimum 4 years Experience- Required

 

Healthcare is a rapidly changing environment and technology is integrated into almost all aspects of patient care. Computers and other electronic devices are utilized across the organization and throughout each department. Colleagues must have an understanding of computers, and competence in using computers and basic software programs.
