Overview

The Lead OR Radiologic Technologist position performs diagnostic radiographic procedures while providing leadership to the OR Radiologic staff. In addition to providing basic patient care, processing films, maintaining equipment, and transporting patients, this position serves as a procedure specialist and leads a team of technologists in Diagnostic/X-ray.

 

This position performs prescribed specialized radiographic procedures as directed by following department/facility policies, procedures, and protocols in accordance with American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) and Medical Radiologic Technical Board of Examiners (MRTBE). This position ensures optimal care/treatment to all patient populations that are cared for in an operative setting. The incumbent utilizes specialized training within specific surgical settings and possesses dynamic ability to adapt quickly and professionally, with minimal direction, in accordance with ALARA (“as low as (is) reasonably achievable”) guidelines. Internal customers: All levels of medical imaging and nursing management and staff, medical staff, and all other members of the interdisciplinary health care team. External Customers: regulatory and health agencies, patients and family members

Responsibilities

Patient Care
* Prepares for surgical procedures by setting up the imaging modality in accordance with each OR procedure

* Check patient laterality, uploads all pertinent patient information, ensures equipment is functioning as expected.

* Communicates with the OR team regarding special imaging needs.

* Plans for upcoming surgical case needs by being included in OR team planning and communications regarding specific case needs.

* Educates patients/families regarding procedure and/or treatment to be performed.

* Demonstrates professional behavior/conduct in all interactions, fosters teamwork, efficient use of resources and quality patient outcomes.

* Performs prescribed procedures in accordance with established department/facility policies, procedures and protocols.

* Maintains infection prevention standards. Understands aseptic technique and universal precautions throughout the procedure.

* Prepares, cleans, adjusts, inspects and maintains equipment.

* Produces high quality images and prepares/presents them with other pertinent patient information for timely interpretation.

* Prepares and maintains accurate documentation, archiving imaging data as needed or required.

* Collaborates with physicians and other medical professionals


Quality
* Adheres to regulatory and organizational standards affecting patient care and safety as well as all hospital and departmental policies and procedures.

* Performs and evaluates equipment quality control measurements, demonstrating ability to troubleshoot and notify appropriate personnel to maintain equipment performance.

* Assures the efficient operation of workflow of the department and monitors and maintains adequate inventory of supplies and materials to ensure non-interruption of service.

Compliance/Safety

* If required for position, ensures all certifications and/or licenses are up-to-date and valid prior to expiration dates.

* Completes all company mandatory modules and required job specific training in the specified time frame.

* Responsible for reporting any safety related incident in a timely fashion through the Midas/RDE tool; attends all safety related training programs; performs work in a safe manner; monitors work environment for possible safety issues and ensures others are also performing work in a safe manner.

Qualifications

Education
Associates of Applied Science or other Related Fields- Required

 


Certification & Licensures
Diagnostic/Xray:
AZDHS Certified Radiologic Technologist - Required
BLS (American Heart Assoc.) - Required
Fingerprint Clearance Card application number- Required upon hire
Fingerprint Clearance Card- Required within 90 days of hire
Employee will obtain and maintain appropriate clinical competencies for the roles assigned by their departmental leader.

 


Experience
Minimum 2-year experience as imaging technologist in an OR setting- Required
Experience in hospital Trauma 1 and Trauma 2 environment – Required
