The Senior Process Improvement Facilitator functions as an expert in examining critical factors impacting patient care delivery systems through use of process improvement methods and tools to evaluate, measure capability, and redesign operational and clinical processes. The facilitator supports the work of multidisciplinary project teams to determine how best to achieve consistently high-quality and efficient healthcare delivery in inpatient and outpatient settings. The Senior Process Improvement Facilitator operates at the mastery level in improvement science methods, project management, and process change management competencies. This role requires that the facilitator possess communication, facilitation, analytical, and motivational skills consistent with successful change management and innovation deployment. The Senior Process Improvement Facilitator is a change agent, results-driven, and maintains focus on effective implementation and sustainment of operational and clinical change.
Improvement Science Methods
* Coach or mentor those facilitating teams.
* Teach and promote PI methods and science throughout the organization.
* Provide education and guidance on the purpose, use, and expected value of quality improvement tools.
* Identify, define, and design solutions to address opportunities based on benchmarking, goal comparison, data analysis, and corrective actions.
* Advise on future data and information needs and resources to better support PI initiatives.
* Mentor and train others in applying analytical and statistical methods to ensure analytical rigor.
* Develop and organize system-wide dashboards and scorecards incorporating clinical and business metrics (e.g., national or payer benchmarks) tailored to strategic or operational goals.
PI Project Managment
* Explain connections and lead alignment between the PI program and initiatives and the organization's strategic goals, mission, vision, and values.
* Quantify the improvement opportunity from PI in terms of safety, cost savings, compliance, and reputation.
* Evaluate the effectiveness of an organization's PI program and make adjustments as required for ongoing success and sustained results.
* Critically evaluate voluntary external standards and guidelines and advise the organization on whether these advance or impede the achievement of PI goals.
* Link provider and payer organizational PI initiatives with community and public health needs and opportunities.
* Understand and evaluate project management approaches and adapt a consistent and relevant approach for standardization across the organization.
* Assess and adapt an approved project management technology platform.
* Develop adequate staffing and resource budgets for PI projects to ensure project success.
* Teach others to use tools to facilitate meetings and group activities.
* Apply effective PI lessons to other projects throughout the organization.
* Share knowledge and results of successful PI activities through written publications and public presentations for peer groups in internal, external, national, or international professional settings.
* Track project monitoring and control plans to ensure sustained results of take action to remediate the plan, if necessary.
* Operate and navigate political landscapes to achieve project goals.
Culture and Process Change Managment
* Align the organization-wide change-management process with the mission and vision of the organization.
* Lead strategic planning for PI implementation, sustainability, and long-term change.
* Identify and leverage individuals who inspire others.
* Integrate a continuous PI recognition program into the organizational structure.
* Apply and integrate quality award program criteria such as Baldrige Performance Excellence and Shingo.
* Implement effective PI decision-making processes and clarify governance for decision-making.
* Continuously communicate the vision and status of the PI program and projects to senior leadership and throughout the organization.
* Design and evaluate innovative and best practices.
* Understand the principles and practices for organizational development involving adaptive innovation and improvements.
* Advise the organization on the use and adoption of the most appropriate measures to achieve PI results.
* Implement strategies to modify the culture within units and across the organization.
* Investigate industry best practices to recommend innovations to continually advance performance improvement.
Compliance/Safety
* Responsible for reporting any safety related incident in a timely fashion through the Midas/RDE tool; attends all safety related training programs; performs work in a safe manner; monitors work environment for possible safety issues and ensures others are also performing work in a safe manner.
* Stays current and complies with state and federal regulations/statutes and company policies that impact the employees area of responsibility.
* If required for position, ensures all certifications and/or licenses are up-to-date and valid prior to expiration dates.
* Completes all company mandatory modules and required job specific training in the specified time frame.
Education
Masters Degree in Engineering, Business, or healthcare-related field- Required
In lieu of Masters Degree, Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Business, or healthcare-related field + 10 years experience in PI field- Required
Certification & Licensures
Lean Six Sigma Blackbelt- Required
Project Management Professional Certification- Preferred
Experience
5+ years experience leading process improvement initiatives using LSS principles- Required
Experience teaching LSS concepts and tools - Required
Experience facilitating large PI initiatives, kaizen events, or rapid cycle improvements- Required
Experience disseminating PI findings and results to large audiences- Required
Experience and knowledge of choosing the appropriate LSS or QI tool to inform PI processes- Required
