Overview

The Manager Laboratory Core is responsible for leading daily operations of the Clinical Laboratory (Blood Bank, Chemistry, Coagulation, Hematology, Microbiology, Molecular and Urinalysis). S/he ensures lab services are best practices with focus on patients and cost containment that are implemented in an expeditious manner.

Responsibilities

Operations
* Monitors and reports on departmental goals and metrics.

* Participates in strategic decisions affecting laboratory operations.

* Participates in strategic decisions affecting the Core Laboratory.

* Participates in budget development.

* Collaborates with other departments to create systems and resolve issues that impact patient care delivery.

* Collaborates with other departments to resolve operational issues.

* Ensures lab services are focused on patients and cost containment.

* Collaborates with Pathology to resolve clinical issues.

* Builds and maintains provider and interdepartmental relationships.

 
Staff Management
* Builds relationships with resources within the health system.

* Trains, leads, coaches and mentors staff.

* Responsible for hiring, monitoring, coaching, and providing disciplinary action to staff.

* Performs employee evaluations.

* Oversees staff development.

 
Compliance/Safety
* Responsible for reporting any safety-related incident in a timely fashion through the Midas/RDE tool; attends all safety-related training programs; performs work in a safe manner; monitors work environment for possible safety issues and ensures others are also performing work in a safe manner.

* Stays current and complies with state and federal regulations/statutes and company policies that impact the employee's area of responsibility.

* If required for the position, ensures all certifications and/or licenses are up-to-date and valid prior to expiration dates.

* Completes all company mandatory modules and required job-specific training in the specified time frame.

Qualifications

Education
Medical Laboratory Technologists with Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology or related science field- Required

 


Experience
Minimum of two years of clinical laboratory managerial experience- Required
Minimum of five years of clinical laboratory managerial experience- Preferred

Experience in Hematology, Chemistry, Blood Banking, Coagulation, Urinalysis, Serology, Immunology, and Microbiology- Required

Healthcare is a rapidly changing environment and technology is integrated into almost all aspects of patient care. Computers and other electronic devices are utilized across the organization and throughout each department. Colleagues must have an understanding of computers, and competence in using computers and basic software programs.

 


Certification & Licensures
Certification as a CLS or MT by ASCP or equivalent- Required

 

Employee will obtain and maintain appropriate clinical competencies for the roles assigned by their departmental leader.
