Overview

The Patient Account Assistant is the conduit between the patient’s visit and understanding medical bills. This position is ready to assist the patient by answering billing questions, refunding or reprocessing. This role is responsible for taking inbound patient phone calls for payments, complaints, and questions. This position will also review accounts to provide itemized billing. This role is customer service oriented and conveys a helping attitude when speaking personally with patients through phone calls, and if needed, through email and letter correspondence.

 

This position's job responsibilities include handling patient complaints and grievances, insurance and billing clarifications and corrections, insurance and legal balance verifications, processing credits and refunds, facilitating relations with patients, processing payments, advising on financial assistance availability, account advisement, deceased patient account corrections and payroll deduction advisement and completion.

Responsibilities

Patient Assistance
* Contact patient, as needed to collect payment, refunds, credits or adjust payments

* Responding to patients in a timely manner regarding benefits, payments, billing questions and all other claim related issues in a timely manner.

* Reviews payment posting and explanation of payments

*Reviews accounts thoroughly to ensure the patient was billed properly when patients make complaints

* Sets up payment plans for patients

* Researches returned mail with bad addresses via online and paper sources

* Facilities and helps patients through the patient grievance process


 
Compliance/Safety
* Responsible for reporting any safety-related incident in a timely fashion through the Midas/RDE tool; attends all safety-related training programs; performs work in a safe manner; monitors work environment for possible safety issues and ensures others are also performing work in a safe manner.

* Stays current and complies with state and federal regulations/statutes and company policies that impact the employee's area of responsibility.

* If required for the position, ensures all certifications and/or licenses are up-to-date and valid prior to expiration dates.

* Completes all company mandatory modules and required job-specific training in the specified time frame.

Qualifications

Education
High School Diploma or GED- Required

Associate's Degree- Preferred

 

Certification & Licensures
Clerical, secretarial, receptionist experience - Preferred
Microsoft Windows workstation environments and MS Office products experience (i.e., MS Word, MS Excel, Outlook, etc.)- Preferred

Customer Service- Preferred

 

Healthcare is a rapidly changing environment and technology is integrated into almost all aspects of patient care. Computers and other electronic devices are utilized across the organization and throughout each department. Colleagues must have an understanding of computers, and competence in using computers and basic software programs.
