Responsible for independently installing, repairing, calibrating, implementing preventative maintenance, electrical safety and performance verification, bench and field services repairs on most medical equipment. Assists in and occasionally coordinates equipment installations/project work. This position is a fully experienced in biomedical duties with exceptional skills set and/or knowledge. This position works with minimal supervision and is capable of serving as trainer and mentor to junior and mid-level biomedical staff; this position is capable of performing in a lead capacity. This position provides in-service training to clinical staff on most medical equipment. This position travels across multiple sites as required or as needed.
Biomedical Equipment Responsibilities
* Assists with and may coordinate equipment installations and project work involving patient care and medical communications technology, and clinical application networks.
* Inspects incoming equipment for compliance with codes, standards, and manufactures' recommendations.
* Installs, repairs, and calibrates a wide variety of complex patient care equipment, medical communications equipment, PCs, and clinical applications networks to board/module level and occasionally component level through an understanding of electronics theory and applications and fundamentals of LAN networking
* Reads detailed electronic schematics.
* Performs scheduled/preventive maintenance, electrical safety inspections, and quality assurance consistent with applicable regulatory standards on assigned medical equipment in a timely manner.
* Troubleshoots equipment using available test equipment.
* Monitors and oversees the work of outside contractors/vendors engaged in equipment repair.
* Provides customer service and resolves equipment service problems by ensuring that clinical capability is restored as quickly as possible. Maintains communications with customers regarding the status of equipment repairs.
* Proactively solves technology issues when appropriate.
* Coordinates/schedules service (self, vendor, and when appropriate, other technicians) via management of customer expectations.
* Performs device investigations related to regulations and/or incident reporting under supervision, if applicable.
* Documents all work performed, maintains parts, supplies, tools, test equipment and technical literature by completing service reports and supplemental productivity documentation in an accurate and timely manner.
* Assists manager in maintaining a comprehensive library of technical literature.
* Identifies the need for patient care equipment education and provides user (physician, nuring, other allied health staff) education on medical equipment.

* Demonstrates advanced understanding and skills related to general electromechanical systems and devices.
* Demonstrates advanced and detailed understanding and can fully communicate the use of devices supported, and can provide advanced support of acuity equipment for direct patient care.
* Demonstrates in-depth understanding of operations and environment supported (such as hospital, clinic, etc.), and in-depth understanding of common clinical terminology and that of life sciences such as anatomy and physiology.
* Has advanced experience in the assigned clinical environment.
* Demonstrates detailed knowledge and understanding of both local and national public safety and regulatory issues.
* Demonstrates working knowledge of clinical equipment such as radiological, laboratory and networked medical systems so that work beyond single devices can be appropriately accomplished.
* Demonstrates basic understanding of project management terms and methods.

* Responsible for reporting any safety-related incident in a timely fashion through the Midas/RDE tool; attends all safety-related training programs; performs work in a safe manner; monitors work environment for possible safety issues and ensures others are also performing work in a safe manner.
* Stays current and complies with state and federal regulations/statutes and company policies that impact the employee's area of responsibility.
* If required for the position, ensures all certifications and/or licenses are up-to-date and valid prior to expiration dates.
* Completes all company mandatory modules and required job-specific training in the specified time frame.
Education
High School Diploma or GED - Required
Associate degree, military training or academic work aligned with biomedical core competencies - Required
Basic knowledge of mathematics, physics, chemistry, English and professional skills - Required
Certification & Licensures
Certification by the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI) - Preferred
Experience
Minimum 7 years progressively responsible work experience in all phases of medical equipment installation, repair, and maintenance.
Must be proficient at reading and analyzing schematic diagrams, including analog and digital circuits and possess a working knowledge of electrical and electronic fundamentals, including DC and AC circuits, semiconductor theory, digital circuit theory and microprocessor theory.
Must be proficient in Windows PC and network operating systems, PC repair, and have fundamental knowledge in Local Area Network configuration and troubleshooting.
