Overview

Responsible for installing, repairing, calibrating, performing maintenance, electrical safety and performance verification, bench and field service, on low-risk medical equipment under direct supervision. This position has a basic knowledge of biomedical equipment, its activities or functions and has entry level technician responsibilities. This position will travel across multiple sites as required and as needed.

Responsibilities

 Biomedical Equipment Responsibilities
* Performs scheduled preventative maintenance and safety inspections and testing on a diverse range of therapeutic and diagnostic biomedical equipment, instrumentation, devices and systems using specialized test equipment, tools and simulation devices.

* Identifies, diagnoses and implements minor repairs associated with equipment malfunctions on general low-risk medical devices and equipment.

* Documents all work performed, maintains parts, supplies, tools, test equipment and technical literature by completing service reports and supplemental productivity documentation in an accurate and timely manner.

* Provides customer service and resolves equipment service problems by ensuring that clinical capability is restored as quickly as possible. Maintains communication with customers regarding status of equipment repairs.

* Assists with testing and calibrating equipment in accordance to manufacturers' recommendation and/or other established guidelines. Performs all functions according to established policies, procedures, regulatory and accreditation requirements, as well as applicable professional standards.

Skills, Experience and Equipment Experience
* Demonstrates basic understanding and skills related to general electromechanical systems and devices.

* Demonstrates understanding and can communicate the use of devices supported, and can provide basic support of acuity equipment for direct patient care.

* Demonstrates familiarity with operations and environment supported (such as hospital, clinic, etc.), and understanding of common clinical terminology and that of life sciences such as anatomy and physiology.

* Has some limited experience in the assigned clinical environment.

* Demonstrates basic understanding of both local and national public safety and regulatory issues.

* Demonstrates basic understanding of clinical equipment such as radiological, laboratory and networked medical systems.

* Demonstrates basic understanding of project management terms and methods.


 
Compliance/Safety
* Responsible for reporting any safety-related incident in a timely fashion through the Midas/RDE tool; attends all safety-related training programs; performs work in a safe manner; monitors work environment for possible safety issues and ensures others are also performing work in a safe manner.

* Stays current and complies with state and federal regulations/statutes and company policies that impact the employee's area of responsibility.

* If required for the position, ensures all certifications and/or licenses are up-to-date and valid prior to expiration dates.

* Completes all company mandatory modules and required job-specific training in the specified time frame.

Qualifications

Education
High School Diploma or GED - Required

 

Experience
Understanding of repair and maintenance of general low-risk medical equipment technology devices - Required
General knowledge of the application and use of personal computers and how it interfaces with medical equipment - Required
Understanding of the technical aspects of electronic equipment, its operation, repair and maintenance - Required

Healthcare is a rapidly changing environment and technology is integrated into almost all aspects of patient care. Computers and other electronic devices are utilized across the organization and throughout each department. Colleagues must have an understanding of computers, and competence in using computers and basic software programs.
