Overview

Under Minimal supervision of the Director of Biomedical Engineering, directs and coordinates work schedules and assignments for the Biomedical Engineering Technicians (BMET's), according to the department procedures and practices. This position is responsible for implementing and maintaining all standards and practices related to equipment management program and the Environment of Care (EOC). Provides technical guidance to biomed staff for repairs maintenance of medical devices and systems. Monitors work done by outside contractors to assure performance according to contractual commitments and documents the results.

Responsibilities

 
Medical Equipment Repair/Installation
* Repair Broken Medical equipment to manufacturer specifications.

* Provide technical and operational guidance to Biomed Techs.

* Assist, manage and monitor third party repairs.

* Document repairs to meet regulatory standards.

* Works with other teams to install complex systems and acts as a resource for to other departments.

* Demonstrate knowledge and skills in the functions of electrical/electronic and computer components of medical equipment.

* Demonstrate knowledge of biological signals.

* Demonstrate knowledge of basic human anatomy and physiology.

 
Medical Equipment Preventive Maintenance
* Perform required preventive maintenance inspections on a variety of types of medical equipment.

* Determine or develop testing procedures and frequencies for medical equipment

* Instruct the Biomed technicians on testing procedures as needed.

* Calibrate equipment to manufacturer specifications.

* Demonstrate competence in the clinical environment through internship or practical experience including performing preventive maintenance and repairs.

* Demonstrate the proper knowledge and use of medical test equipment.

 
Medical Equipment Life Cycle Management
* Identify equipment risks associated with age or misuse of equipment.

* Provides pre-purchase consultation and planning services for new biomedical devices and systems.

* Reviews equipment history and recommends system replacement when appropriate.

* Inspect all incoming equipment and document per policy.

* Demonstrate knowledge of hospital organization and structure and role of the BMET in a healthcare organization.

* Identify, analyze and integrate technical equipment requirements with the needs of the medical staff and patients.

* Monitors medical device recall alerts and advises accordingly.

 
Education
* Assist in identifying training needs for the Biomed Staff and Clinical Staff.

* Instruct the Clinical staff in proper use of complex Medical equipment as needed.

* Demonstrate a working knowledge of medical vocabulary to communicate as part of the healthcare team.

 
Department Management
* Evaluates and reviews personnel performance and recommends personnel actions such as merit increases, promotions, transfers, disciplinary action.

* Develops and implements training protocols and standards of work, while coaching employees to meet those standards.

* Schedules, reviews, evaluates, and monitors work assignments, and recommends changes.

* Demonstrate proper knowledge of computerized medical maintenance systems (CMMS) and the proper documentation of medical equipment services.

* Reviews/edits/approves time cards, schedules, PTO requests.

 
HTD Team
* Provide mentoring and guidance to other departments within the Healthcare Technology Division.

* Knowledge of the integration between computers/servers and how they interface with Medical Equipment.

* Works as resource for HTD on complex projects.

* Demonstrate an understanding of Local Area Network communications.

* Demonstrate an understanding of computer device communications including addressing and communications protocols.

 
Compliance/Safety
* Responsible for reporting any safety-related incident in a timely fashion through the Midas/RDE tool; attends all safety-related training programs; performs work in a safe manner; monitors work environment for possible safety issues and ensures others are also performing work in a safe manner.

* Stays current and complies with state and federal regulations/statutes and company policies that impact the employee's area of responsibility.

* If required for the position, ensures all certifications and/or licenses are up-to-date and valid prior to expiration dates.

* Completes all company mandatory modules and required job-specific training in the specified time frame.

AA degree in Biomedical Equipment Technology/ Graduation from Military Biomed School or equivalent experience - Required

Formal training in one or more of the following: Anesthesia, Respiratory, Diagnostic Imaging, Laboratory - Required
Healthcare is a rapidly changing environment and technology is integrated into almost all aspects of patient care. Computers and other electronic devices are utilized across the organization and throughout each department. Colleagues must have an understanding of computers, and competence in using computers and basic software programs.
