Overview

The Director of Informatics provides assistance in leading the organization's clinical and revenue cycle strategy, development and implementation of Health Information Technology (HIT) to support clinical and financial documentation in both acute and ambulatory settings. Collaborates with organizational leaders on the clinical and administrative decision-making process. Assists in developing a systems strategy by standardizing and optimizing the use of existing clinical HIT systems, for nurses, physicians, and other multidisciplinary care providers, by attending to their information management needs. This responsibility includes but is not limited to focusing on one EHR- standardization and systemization, improving the clinical quality, safety, and operational integrity of clinical information systems; and integrating quality improvement and regulatory standards to maximize the capability of the clinical data warehouse for quality, research, and evidence-based practice activities. This position has oversight of informatics strategy and activities. Serves as the principal informatics advisor to organizational leadership and liaison to the leaders of Northern Arizona Healthcare in collaboration with the Director of EHR Applications. This position has a direct relationship with the shared decision governance body to assure that one standardized EHR spans across the continuum of care. The Director of informatics will be perform all duties in a manner that promotes a multidisciplinary team concept and reflects the organization’s mission and vision. Clinical credibility is crucial. Excellence is reflected in improved client outcomes, improved clinical workflow and organizational performance.

Responsibilities

People Management
* Chairs, co-chairs or attends meetings and steering committees as appropriate, serving as the voice of IT/Informatics best practices and includes, brings or engages necessary IT personnel/leadership as needed.

* Manages, communicates and escalates clinical issues, concerns and needs related to Information Technology and support.

* Ensures that all workflows have support strategies and priorities align with NAH’s strategic, financial and operational goals.

* Provides open forum for staff discussions of ideas and opinions in support of teamwork and communication.

* Effectively communicates strategies, priorities and required work assignments, delegates as appropriate and follows up to establish accountability.

* Holds employees to the highest standards of performance and accountability and provides counseling/coaches employees on areas of improvement.

* Builds strong working relationships with acute and ambulatory departments and leaders designed to remove barriers for success and deliver the best possible informatics program to ensure adoption of the technologies deployed.

 
Operational Management
* Champions process improvement, standardization and efficient build work to support best practice models of patient flow and design.

* Collaborates with Director of EHRHER informatics for EMR workflow maturity and standardization to ensure the EHMR is current and meets organizational and regulatory needs of the organization.

* Delivers written work, proposals, presentations of a high quality and professional caliber.

* Manages assigned resources, vendors and employees to the highest standards of performance. Addresses performance issues timely, fairly,professionally and according to NAH and IT policy.

* Assists in the evaluation, strategic planning and execution of clinical information system installation, support, and training.

* Is responsible for the evaluation, coordination, implementation and maintenance of designated projects, which enhance the organizational function of our acute clinical service optimization of new or modified clinical information systems.

 
Data Integrity
* Coordinates the collection and analysis of metrics that relate to benefits realization and the return on investment in information systems.

* Manages and assesses workflow need.

* Manages the impact that new or modified information systems have on patient confidentiality and privacy.

* Monitors system performance and compliance with EMR recommended standards, and report to IT and impacted departments when anomalies, errors, inaccuracies, or inefficiencies occur.

* Maps real-life nursing, clinician and revenue cycle practices to information applications.

* Plans, coordinates and executes activities related to the efficient support of all service lines, project teams and change processes.

* Assures Informatic rounding and self-rounding at NAH, providing ad-hoc training and appropriate use of software system.

* Serves as a resource to staff, provides leadership to providers regarding Informatics and operational issues related to clinical and financial systems and applications.

* Facilitates coordination of Informatics services, applicable change control processes and resources in concert with technical IT services.

 
Compliance/Safety
* Responsible for reporting any safety-related incident in a timely fashion through the Midas/RDE tool; attends all safety-related training programs; performs work in a safe manner; monitors work environment for possible safety issues and ensures others are also performing work in a safe manner.

* Stays current and complies with state and federal regulations/statutes and company policies that impact the employee's area of responsibility.

* If required for the position, ensures all certifications and/or licenses are up-to-date and valid prior to expiration dates.

* Completes all company mandatory modules and required job-specific training in the specified time frame.

* Maintains high visibility on the department, providing staff opportunity to interact with a manager during staff's regular work hours.

* Demonstrates willingness to discuss issues with staff during their worked hours.

 
Fiscal Responsibilty
* Assists with planning and adherence to capital and operational budgets for informatics division.

*Analyzes complex clinical functions, organizational structures, and care processes to facilitate decision making regarding inpatient optimization, standardization and support.

* Utilizes the knowledge and skills of clinical best practices to determine clinical functions that are suitable for automation within the EHR and ensure information systems are consistent with professional healthcare standards of nursing, physicians and allied health professional practice.

Qualifications

Education
Bachelor's degree in Nursing- Required
Masters degree - Preferred
 
Experience
Minimum 5 years in a position of nursing leadership (manager or director)- Required
Minimum 8 years in implementation, redesign or process work that includes EHR system deployment and design- Preferred
Proven strong, dynamic leadership skills, with proven abilities to manage across various levels of the organization- Preferred
Healthcare is a rapidly changing environment and technology is integrated into almost all aspects of patient care. Computers and other electronic devices are utilized across the organization and throughout each department. Colleagues must have an understanding of computers, and competence in using computers and basic software programs.
 
Certification & Licensures
Current, unrestricted RN License - Required
Post-Graduate certificate in Nursing Informatics or similar healthcare related - Preferred
Lean Six Sigma Green/Black Belt Certification- Preferred
Project Management Certification (PMP)- Preferred
