Biomedical Equipment Responsibilities * Installs, repairs, and calibrates clinical equipment at a component level. Inspects incoming equipment for compliance with codes, standards and manufacturers' recommendations. * Performs scheduled/preventive maintenance, electrical safety inspections, and quality assurance consistent with applicable regulatory standards on assigned medical equipment in a timely manner. * Repairs patient care equipment, medical communications equipment and PCs to board/module level through an understanding of electronics theory and applications including operating systems and PC repair. * Reads detailed electronic schematics. * Troubleshoots equipment using available test equipment. * Monitors the work of outside contractors/vendors engaged in equipment repair. * Provides customer service and resolves equipment service problems by ensuring that clinical capability is restored as quickly as possible. Maintains communications with customers regarding the status of equipment repairs. * Proactively solves technology issues when appropriate. * Coordinates/schedules service (self, vendor, and when appropriate, other technicians) via management of customer expectations. * Performs device investigations related to regulations and/or incident reporting under supervision, if applicable. * Documents all work performed, maintains parts, supplies, tools, test equipment and technical literature by completing service reports and supplemental productivity documentation in an accurate and timely manner. * Assist manager in maintaining a comprehensive library of technical literature. * Assists with equipment installations and project work involving patient care, medical communications technology, and clinical application networks. |
Customer Service and Teamwork * Solves service line customer services issues efficiently and effectively * Ability to learn from others on the job, ability to teach basic skills of the job to Biomedical Technician I staff, and can mentor others in basic skills. |
Skills, Experience and Equipment Experience * Demonstrates comprehensive understanding and skills related to general electromechanical systems and devices. * Demonstrates comprehensive understanding and can communicate the use of devices supported, and can provide comprehensive support of acuity equipment for direct patient care. * Demonstrates familiarity with operations and environment supported (such as hospital, clinic, etc.), and comprehensive understanding of common clinical terminology and that of life sciences such as anatomy and physiology. * Has some comprehensive experience in the assigned clinical environment. * Demonstrates comprehensive understanding of both local and national public safety and regulatory issues. * Demonstrates working knowledge of clinical equipment such as radiological, laboratory and networked medical systems. * Demonstrates basic understanding of project management terms and methods. |
Compliance/Safety * Responsible for reporting any safety-related incident in a timely fashion through the Midas/RDE tool; attends all safety-related training programs; performs work in a safe manner; monitors work environment for possible safety issues and ensures others are also performing work in a safe manner. * Stays current and complies with state and federal regulations/statutes and company policies that impact the employee's area of responsibility. * If required for the position, ensures all certifications and/or licenses are up-to-date and valid prior to expiration dates. * Completes all company mandatory modules and required job-specific training in the specified time frame. |
