Overview

The Manager of Engineering supervises the daily operation and maintenance of all buildings, infrastructure and grounds at Northern Arizona Healthcare. S/He supervises maintenance of all satellite facilities. S/He develops and maintains all records required by local, state and federal regulatory agencies. This person assumes responsibility for the department in the absence of the Director.
 

Responsibilities

Leadership
* Consults with and advises the Director concerning issues, needs and problems.

* Manages staffing levels relative to productivity and quality of services.

* Manages personnel, work reports, inventories, by ensuring that data records and forms are completed, analyzed, and evaluated according to departmental policy.

* Demonstrates flexibility/ creativity in meeting department/ NAH needs.

* Coordinates duties and/or activities with appropriate coaching and mentoring.

* Assists in developing and implementing new policies/ procedures that increase patient satisfaction, enhance quality patient care and promotes NAH as a center and a system of excellence, using employee input whenever possible.

* Participates in departmental projects/system changes, driving change where appropriate.

* Schedules and directs work; Discharges staff as appropriate.

* Evaluates personnel performance, and makes recommendations for personnel actions including merit increases, promotions, disciplinary actions and termination.

* Keeps staff informed of pertinent changes to department/ NAH where applicable.
 
Operations
* Assists in planning, organizing, directing, and controlling department functions, including plan, design, construction, alteration, operation, maintenance, and replacement of building and infrastructure systems; loss prevention management functions and activities, including safety, security, and fire protection as related to these systems and compliance with budget.

* Manages the overall maintenance of infrastructure and building systems, by developing, implementing, and monitoring with appropriate maintenance procedures.

* Develops, implements, administers and modifies standards of operation, and other programs to maintain the physical plant and utility systems through effective, efficient utilization of personnel and materials.

* Assists in establishing and implementing policies and procedures for department operation; Maintains established standards of performance and productivity.

* Manages department practices, quality of work performed and recommends changes.

* Plans workload in terms of labor, material, and equipment resources, ensures that work to be done is in compliance with local and state codes and applicable federal environmental laws or regulations.

* Coordinates work projects with departments or services affected to minimize disruption of hospital operations.

* Manages inventory control, production, portion control and waste, maintaining efficient utilization of personnel and materials.

* Maintains department records, reports, statistics, files as required.

* Establishes current files of as-built, schematic, and engineering drawings of plant facilities and equipment, including specifications, and operations and maintenance manuals.
 
Finance
* Assists in preparation of annual capital and expense budgets and maintain cost control.

* Ensures optimum, cost effective staffing levels by adhering to budgeted FTE’s based on daily department activity levels and adjusting to changes. Maintains operating budget and expenses.

* Reviews monthly budgetary reports and provides variance reports.

* Assists in negotiating and maintaining annual department specific contracts to insure safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the building and infrastructure systems.
 
Project Management
* Meets with sales representatives, assists in negotiating contracts, brings in outside trades and technical specialists, and arranges for purchasing of supplies and equipment; supervises receiving, storage, inventory control of department supplies and equipment.

* Coordinates within internal stakeholders.

* Coordinates with contractors and vendors remodeling and construction projects.
 
Compliance/Safety
* Responsible for reporting any safety-related incident in a timely fashion through the Midas/RDE tool; attends all safety-related training programs; performs work in a safe manner; monitors work environment for possible safety issues and ensures others are also performing work in a safe manner.

* Stays current and complies with state and federal regulations/statutes and company policies that impact the employee's area of responsibility.

* Completes all company mandatory modules and required job-specific training in the specified time frame.

* Ensures all certifications and/or licenses are up-to-date and valid prior to expiration dates.

* Stay current of OSHA and other state/federal guidelines/policies/procedures related to handling cleaning chemicals/solutions.

* Reviews, updates and maintains all policies/ procedures in accordance with all regulatory agencies, ensuring compliance with local, state and federal guidelines.

Qualifications

Education
High School Diploma or GED- Required
Bachelor's Degree or Equivalent Experience- Required
 
Experience
5 years experience in a supervisory role within Engineering/ Facilities - Required (Healthcare - Preferred)
1 year experience planning operational budgets - Preferred
3 years experience in project management - Preferred

Strong working knowledge of fire safety regulations, HVAC/R, water treatment, medical gasses and infrastructure - Required
Proficiency with PLC's and building automation software - Required (Apogee/ Envision - Preferred)

Ability to read and interpret building and equipment blueprints and/or schematics.- Required

Healthcare is a rapidly changing environment and technology is integrated into almost all aspects of patient care. Computers and other electronic devices are utilized across the organization and throughout each department. Colleagues must have an understanding of computers, and competence in using computers and basic software programs.
