Overview

The Battalion Chief will provide direction of daily crew activities through integrated supervisory responsibilities including leadership, evaluation, and discipline. S/he will be responsible for all decisions relating to the overall safe operations of the ambulance in accordance with Arizona state regulations and local medical direction. This position is responsible for operating hydraulic gurneys and power lifts, emergency and non-emergency ambulance driving, and the use of portable ambulance medical equipment.

Responsibilities

Ambulance Operations
* Oversees daily planning, organizing, staffing, supervising, and directing ambulance operations.

* Determines how to deploy ambulances and personnel during medical/rescue responses in support of FMC operations.

* Maintains quality patient care during all phases of ambulance operations.

* Assists in the planning of ambulance policies and procedures (short to long range).

* Maintains ambulance operations according to federal/state/local laws and NAH policies and procedures.

* Maintains a safe work environment during all medical/rescue operations.

* Responsible for vehicle maintenance and inspection of ambulances.

* Responsible for equipment maintenance and inspection of all equipment.

* Responsible for all station maintenance and maintenance of stations.

* Responsible for radio/telecomm equipment and maintenance of equipment.

* Responsible for timely responses of ambulance to all ambulance requests.

* Responsible for completion/documentation of all electronic patient care records.

* Responsible for all questions/issues that present at Guardian Medical Transport.

* Responsible for Communication Center operations.
 
Personnel Management
* Manages staff scheduling for proper staffing levels.

* Recruits, interviews, selects, hires and completes onboarding process.

* Coaches, mentors and develops staff by provides oversight and direction to the employees.

* Performs Employee evaluations (SMART goal setting, and feedback); oversees disciplinary actions and employee performance improvements.

* Monitors and tracks employees time and attendance.

* Collaborates with peer management to complete management assignments.
 
ICS Battalion 5
* Maintains and utilizes National Incident Management System (NIMS) during all ambulance operations.

* Establishes/accepts Incident Command System roles during medical/rescue responses.

* Responsible for the proper use and maintenance of all of the equipment and radio/telecomm in Battalion 5.

* Responsible for safe use of the vehicle rescue and stabilization equipment on Battalion 5.

* Collaborates with other agencies to establish ICS roles and coordinate safe rescue activities.

* Responsible for all multi causality/disaster activation activities.

* Responsible for direct patient care operations as a Battalion Chief paramedic.
 
Clinical Performance
* Manages and coordinates staff education to improve clinical performance and QI compliance.

* Responsible for performance management and QI policy development to address recent changes in practice and policy.

* Identifies incorrect practices and educates on correct clinical skills.

* Performs metric analysis of clinical performance areas, QI objectives ,and patient outcomes.

* Identifies immediate performance improvement and QI needs in regards to priority health concerns.

* Responsible for self-leadership education to achieve highest level of clinical performance.

* Acts as a resource for staff questions, issues, and requests during all phases of ambulance operations.
 
Compliance/Safety
* Responsible for reporting any safety-related incident in a timely fashion through the Midas/RDE tool; attends all safety-related training programs; performs work in a safe manner; monitors work environment for possible safety issues and ensures others are also performing work in a safe manner.

* Stays current and complies with state and federal regulations/statutes and company policies that impact the employee's area of responsibility.

* If required for the position, ensures all certifications and/or licenses are up-to-date and valid prior to expiration dates.

* Completes all company mandatory modules and required job-specific training in the specified time frame.

Qualifications

Education
 
High School Diploma or GED- Required
Associates or Bachelors in related field- Preferred
 
Experience
 
Minimum 5 years experience with Guardian Medical Transport, must have a complete and thorough understanding of Guardian's policies and procedures- Required

Minimum 3 years experience as a paramedic with Guardian Medical Transport, must have a complete and thorough understanding of paramedic policies and procedures- Required

Minimum 1 years experience as a Captain with Guardian Medical Transport, must have a complete and thorough understanding of supervisory policies and procedures- Required

Healthcare is a rapidly changing environment and technology is integrated into almost all aspects of patient care. Computers and other electronic devices are utilized across the organization and throughout each department. Colleagues must have an understanding of computers, and competence in using computers and basic software programs.
 
Certification & Licensures
 
Arizona certification as a Certified Emergency Paramedic (EMCT-P)- Required Current BLS, ALS & PALS (American Heart Association)- Required

Valid Arizona Driver's License with no moving violations within the prior 36 months- Required

Must provide a current official copy of driving record prior to employment and on an annual basis thirty (30) days prior to evaluation- Required

PHTLS or ITLS- Preferred

National Registry Paramedic- Preferred

Employee will obtain and maintain appropriate clinical competencies for the roles assigned by their departmental leader.
