Plant Operator 1st Class:

Plant Operator 2nd Class:

• The Plant Operator 2nd Class supports the operation and maintenance of hospital utility systems, building on the foundational skills of the 3rd Class Operator. This role involves troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining boilers, chillers, pneumatic tube systems, and medical gas systems. The Plant Operator 2nd Class performs preventive maintenance, chemical testing, and system inspections to ensure reliable performance and compliance with safety standards.
• This position works closely with higher-level operators and technicians, assisting in complex repairs and learning advanced troubleshooting techniques. The Plant Operator 2nd Class also supports emergency preparedness by participating in drills and responding to utility failures under supervision.
• In addition to technical responsibilities, this role contributes to a safe and organized work environment by adhering to departmental cleanliness and safety protocols. The Plant Operator 2nd Class plays a key role in maintaining hospital utility systems while developing the skills needed for higher-level roles.

Plant Operator 3rd Class:

• The Plant Operator 3rd Class provides skills involved with the operation of all utility systems at Northern Arizona Healthcare to ensure a safe and secure environment.

Plant Operator 1st Class:

• Operations
  • Assists with inspection, testing, maintenance tasks on emergency power systems, including generators and transfer switches. Accurately documents assigned work order progress and completion in the work order management system, and ensures timely work completion to minimize disruptions to patient care.

  • Reads and interprets building plans, schematics, equipment manuals, and the building management system to diagnose and repair heating water, steam, chilled water, and other central energy plant equipment issues.
  • Maintains effective communication with team members, supervisors, and customers, responding to requests and providing updates as needed, to ensure a clear understanding of tasks and address any complications that arise.

  • Performs maintenance as required by the PM program or as directed.
  • Maintains and operates all medical gas systems and auxiliary equipment necessary to provide continuous supply of medical gas to the hospital.
  • Performs chemical treatment as required.
  • Assists HVAC Technicians and other Plant Operators with specific repairs as required.
  • Performs emergency procedures in order to provide continuous service of all utility systems feeding the hospital in the event of one or more system failures under the direction of supervision.

  • Performs maintenance and keeps appropriate records for equipment that has had corrective maintenance and/or preventative maintenance.
