Overview

The Compliance Officer (CO) works under the direction of the Compliance Manager and supports the organization and Compliance Leadership in the effective implementation and execution of the NAH Compliance Program (which includes compliance, audit, privacy, interoperability, information blocking, and quality payment programs). The CO is responsible for the day-to-day execution of assigned compliance activities, and administers assigned elements of the compliance program following established policies and procedures and Compliance Manager guidance. The CO gathers compliance information, maintains documentation, reports data, and delivers training to support the mitigation of NAH's compliance risks. The CO conducts compliance investigations and/or audits in accordance with government requirements, NAH’s Just Culture, and Compliance Manager guidance. The CO identifies and evaluates emerging compliance risks and regulatory changes, and informs compliance and NAH leadership as indicated.

Each CO has a primary area of specialization. Work in other areas will be needed at times and will be directed by the DCCO.

Responsibilities

Core Responsibilities
* Conducts routine and simple to moderately complex audits and/or investigations in accordance with compliance leadership direction, compliance work plans, and organizational need.

* Drafts and presents written audit, and/or investigation reports that are clear, concise, and objective. Provides comprehensive analysis to leadership and partners to develop compliant corrective actions to address risks with business objectives in mind.

* Prepares reports and summaries that support program and organizational effectiveness with an understanding of NAH’s business objectives and KPIs.

* "Tracks and analyzes reported compliance and/or privacy concerns to identify emerging compliance risk areas. Maintains a comprehensive government reporting and CAP follow-up system.

* Conducts simple to moderately complex monitoring activities and corrective action plans."

* Reports NAH’s progress in implanting and complying with system-wide compliance policies.

* Conducts and assists in the design of compliance training across the NAH system. Training includes routine, mandatory, job/department specific, just-in-time, and other training as indicated by compliance and NAH leadership.

* Performs core compliance and/or audit program tasks, including exclusions/sanctions monitoring, conflict of interest, and code of conduct updates. * Maintains assigned compliance policies and procedures.

* "At the direction of Compliance leadership, analyzes and identifies opportunities for integration of advanced compliance and auditing techniques and approaches, including the use of artificial intelligence (e.g. RPA, NLP, ML, etc.)"

* "Stays current and complies with state and federal regulations and NAH policies that impact the employee's area of responsibility. "

* Assesses and identifies inherent risks in NAH’s systems and recommends mitigating measures.

* Ensure that reasonable safeguards are in place to protect PHI.



Core Responsibilities - Continued
* Maintains a high level of subject matter expertise on compliance topics, including privacy, compliance regulations, and billing/coding compliance issue.

* Assists in drafting compliance and/or audit letters and responses to government and regulatory authorities.

* Provides input into the development of annual compliance guiding documents, including the compliance, privacy, education, and audit plans.

* Works closely with the Compliance Manager and DCCO to execute day-to-day and mid-term priorities.



Compliance/Safety
* If required for position, ensures all certifications and/or licenses are up-to-date and valid prior to expiration dates.

* Completes all company mandatory modules and required job specific training in the specified time frame.

* Responsible for reporting any safety related incident in a timely fashion through the Safety Event tool; attends all safety related training programs; performs work in a safe manner; monitors work environment for possible safety issues and ensures others are also performing work in a safe manner.

* Responsible for maintaining up-to-date knowledge of cybersecurity trends, developments, best practices and regulatory changes.

Qualifications

Education
Bachelor’s Degree in related field or at least 4 years equivalent related experience which provides the required knowledge and abilities - Required


Master’s Degree - Preferred

 


Certification & Licensures
One or more of the following required within 18 months of hire:
Certified in Healthcare Compliance (CHC), Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), Certified Professional Coder (AAPC) or
Certified Coding Specialist (AHIMA), Certified Professional Medical Auditor (CPMA), RHIT or RHIA (AHIMA), Certified
Health Data Analyst (AHIMA), and/or Revenue Cycle Certification through AAHAM

 


Experience

Four (4) years or more of healthcare compliance/audit experience. – Required


Healthcare revenue cycle experience will be considered.
Experience in statistics, revenue cycle, clinical operations, or other healthcare experience – Preferred.
One (1) year or more of experience with healthcare government regulations or payor billing – Required


Demonstrated professional initiative with functional self-management - Required


Experience in identifying learning needs as well as providing education and training designed to support a learning organization – Required


Experience with government programs - Strongly Preferred


Prior clinical or patient financial services experience - Preferred

 

Healthcare is a rapidly changing environment and technology is integrated into almost all aspects of patient care. Computers and other electronic devices are utilized across the organization and throughout each department. Colleagues must have an understanding of computers, and competence in using computers and basic software programs.
