Overview

The Specialty Lead Tech for Obstetrics, under the supervision of the Director and/or Clinical Manager, is resonsible for preparing supplies and equipment, providing technical services, assisting with procedures, data collection, and supports patient care. Oversees the OB Technician team, serves as subject matter expert and provides leadership of this specialty, in support of the mission of NAH. Will act as liaison between surgeons, staff, main operating room, and vendors.

Responsibilities

Patient Care
* Assists RNs with patient care.

* Reports and implements corrective actions under the direction on the RN.

* Prioritizes and addresses technical needs in conjunction with patient conditions.

* Documents interventions and patient responses to inverventions and any changes in patient's condition in the the electronic health record.

* Maintains department cleanliness including following procedures for clean up after treatment.

* Assists in transporting patients, equipment, and supplies.

* Assists patients with donning/doffing compression garments as needed.

* Observe patient for skin integrity and report any problems to supervising clinician.

* Assist patients with activities of daily living, such as toileting as needed.

* Performs Newborn Hearing screening.

* Assist patients with mobility under the direction of supervising clinician.
 
Operations
* Provides and maintains provider preferred items.

* Scrubs into OB operating room.

* Applies principles of sterile technique during procedures.

* Demonstrates ability to problem solve during procedure, even during emergent situations.

* Demonstrates understanding of unit's standards of care and policies, including the ability to locate NAH policies and procedures.

* Adheres to operating room procedures. Prepares and transports instruments for sterile processing.

* Provides safe patient care for the intra operative phase, inlcuding specimen handling and medication labeling and handling.

* Functions as Unit Secretary/Patient Care Technician/Patient Safety Attendant

* Participates in training and education of new employees and other staff regarding aseptic technique and processes.
 
Administrative
* Answers, evaluates, priortizes telephone calls, while obtaining complete and accurate information to determine needs of caller.

* Maintains unit documents.

* Maintains charts and copies charts as requested.

* Assist charge nurse with clerical duties.

* Performs registration process.

* Ensures adequate stafffing for schedule periods and partakes in interview process.

* Partakes in ordering supplies and equipment.
 
Equipment/Supply Management
* Manages equipment and supplies

* Demonstrates superior knowledge and expert practice of department surgical equipment, instrumentation, and surgical procedures.

* Restocks operating rooms and patient rooms.

* Prepares appropriate instruments and supplies for procedures and be able to anitcipate sequence of events and needs ot surgeon and patient.
 
Team Development
* Serves as mentor and role model. Provides input on staff development and performance.

* Exhibits a high level of collaboration with peers and making decisions related to patient care.

* Takes action to ensure that employees fully understand their roles, responsibilites, and performance standards/expectations and provides ongoing feedback and support as employees strive to achieve expectations.

* Maintains collaborative partnership with SPD, biomed, and anesthesia tech, vensdors, physicians, and main OR, to ensure best practices in place and identify opportunites for improvement.
 
Compliance/Safety
* If required for position, ensures all certifications and/or licenses are up-to-date and valid prior to expiration dates.

* Completes all company mandatory modules and required job specific training in the specified time frame.

* Responsible for reporting any safety related incident in a timely fashion through the Midas/RDE tool; attends all safety related training programs; performs work in a safe manner; monitors work environment for possible safety issues and ensures others are also performing work in a safe manner.

* Responsible for maintaining up-to-date knowledge of cybersecurity trends, developments, best practices and regulatory changes.

* Demonstrates accuracy of documentation of assessments, interventions and patient responses as evidence by the appropriate documentation system.

* Follows guidelines for safety with regards to contact precautions and all policies/procedures dealing with blood born pathogens.

* Demonstrates and utilizes the guidelines of care and practice via the nursing process and in accordance with Arizona State Board of Nursing Laws and Regulations being able to perform at a fully competent level.

* Stays current and complies with state and federal regulations/statutes and company policies that impact the employee's area of responsibility.

* Adheres to regulatory and organizational standards affecting patient care and safety, as well as all hospital and departmental polices and procedures. Practices in a safe and cost-effective manner.

Qualifications

Education
 
High School Diploma or GED- Required

Completion of OB technician Training Program- Required
 
Certification & Licensures
 
BLS (American Heart Association)- Required

Current, unrestricted CNA/LNA license in the State of Arizona- Required

Scrub technician certificate- Preferred

Employee will obtain and maintain appropriate clinical competencies for the roles assigned by their department leader.
 
Experience
 
Minimum 1 year experience as CNA/LNA

Minimum 2 years experience- Operating room scrubbing- Preferred Obstetric

Instrument Processing and Precleaning- Preferred

Healthcare is a rapidly changing environment and technology is integrated into almost all aspects of patient care. Computers and other electronic devices are utilized across the organization and throughout each department. Colleagues must have an understanding of computers, and competence in using computers basic software programs.
