Overview

That Water Treatment Specialist is responsible for monitoring and managing critical and process water systems as part of the overall water management program at NAH. This includes collecting and examining water samples for physical, chemical, and biological parameters, altering the dosage of chemicals to disinfect and clarify the water, operating and maintaining pumps, valves, filters, clarifiers, and other equipment and instruments associated with these systems. Additionally, they must document and report data on water quality, flow, pressure, and consumption. They must also diagnose any issues or defects in the water treatment system and adhere to safety protocols to avoid accidents or environmental hazards.

Responsibilities

Operations
*Operate, monitor and maintain water treatment/distribution systems, including but not limited to checking chemical feed systems, water collection and storage, reverse osmosis systems and facility distribution components. Makes adjustments to maintain all applicable water quality standards.

*Performs assigned lab testing and sampling as directed in accordance with all applicable regulatory requirements.

*Maintains logs and communicates relevant information regarding water treatment system operation and maintenance.

*Reads and interprets building plans, schematics, and equipment manuals to independently troubleshoot, repair, and modify equipment and infrastructure.

*As needed develop plans, and written processes related to the operations and maintenance of the water treatment system as well as any required staff training programs.

*Serves as the after-hours dispatch for emergencies, and diagnoses issues appropriately.

*Performs housekeeping duties as assigned and assures the security of water utility structures and property.

*Independently performs preventive and corrective maintenance tasks, accurately documents assigned work order progress and completion in the work order management system, and ensures timely work completion to minimize disruptions to patient care.

*Analyze maintenance data to recommend improvements to preventive maintenance activities.

*Utilize diagnostic skills to identify root causes of equipment failures and implement effective repair strategies to minimize downtime.

*Performs assigned inspections of water treatment equipment as directed.

*Collaborates with service providers and contractors to assist in resolving issues, providing support for tasks such as moving equipment and unlocking doors to help address issues outside the department’s scope.

*All other duties as assigned.
 
Project Management
* Assists in budgeting for projects and procurement of specialized water treatment equipment. Collaborates with management to ensure purchasing aligns with operational needs and financial objectives.

*Proactively develops creative solutions for facility-related issues, collaborating with department heads to implement functional, long-term improvements to water treatment equipment and infrastructure.

*Leads initiatives to enhance the efficiency and reliability of facility systems, continuously assessing operations and recommending improvements to optimize performance and reduce risks.

Compliance/ Safety
*Ensures operational guidelines are followed and compliant with all applicable guidelines.

*Adheres to federal, state, local, regulatory standards. Maintains clear communication with others to ensure they are understood and followed.

*Ensures compliance with organizational policies and procedures.

*Promptly reports safety incidents using the Vigilanz tool.

*Participates in emergency response drills and actual incidents, ensuring adherence to protocols for fire, code red, and disaster situations.

*Collaborates with teams to manage emergencies, including unplanned equipment and utility failures, assist in controlling fires, and support patient and staff safety during internal and external disasters, including triage setups and other critical response tasks.

*Ensures all certifications and/or licenses are up-to-date and valid prior to expiration dates.

*Completes all company mandatory modules and required job-specific training in the specified time frame.

Leadership
*Demonstrates great communication skills and regularly addresses internal and external customer requirements.

*Mentors lower-level technicians by guiding them through system repairs, developing troubleshooting skills, and supporting them in performing tasks independently. Provides ongoing guidance to technicians, fostering skill development, ensuring adherence to safety protocols, and maintaining work standards.

Qualifications

Education
 
*High School Diploma or equivalent - Required

*Associates degree in chemistry/ water treatment, related technical school or equivalent experience - Required
 
Certification & Licensures
 
*Certified Water Technician – Required within one year of hire

*Reverse Osmosis Specialist – Required within one year of hire

*OSHA 10 Certification, Supervisors and Safety Workers – Required within one year of hire

*Valid Arizona driver’s license with no moving violations for the previous 39 months – Required
 
Experience
 
*2+ years’ experience in water distribution systems or water treatment – Required

*Recent experience managing critical water systems to ST108 Standards – Preferred

*Experience with Microsoft office, including the ability to utilize smart devices

*Experience working in a high customer facing position
