Overview

Responsible for decontamination, distribution and inventory control for durable medical equipment throughout the facility. Maintains
electronic records of equipment distribution, migration and cleanings. Possesses basic computer literacy and record keeping skills.
Understands basic decontamination and maintaining cleaning supply inventory needed for cleanings. Operates equipment and utilizes
supplies for general cleaning tasks. The Equipment Sterilization Technician may be required to remove trash and linen and move
supplies, furniture, and equipment in patient rooms and other areas of the facility. The Equipment Sterilization Technician is also
responsible for the disinfection of hospital inpatient, outpatient, common areas and OR rooms with BioQuell sterilization and TRU-D rapid
disinfection equipment. In order to ensure the appropriate rooms are cleaned and disinfection protocols are followed, the Equipment
Sterilization Technician should possess understanding of MDROs, MDRO transmission patterns, and demonstrate exceptional
organizational skills.
 

Responsibilities

Decontamination
* Basic understanding of how to set up and clean durable medical equipment.

* Possesses basic computer literacy and record keeping skills.

* Review the Tru-D Operator training manual.

* Pass the True-D Operators Certification Test.

* Review the Bioquell Operator training manual.

* Pass the Bioquell Operators Certification Test.

 
Equipment Management
* Responsible for the delivery and pick up of durable medical equipment throughout the facility.

* Monitors equipment par levels and recommends replacements as needed.

* Manages bed distribution as needed, ensuring the appropriate bed is used for patient whenever necessary.

* Visually inspects medical equipment; delivers broken equipment to Biomed for repair.

* Depending on the needs of the Facility, other areas of responsibility include Code Cart supply and management.

* Pre staging of beds and other equipment for Surgical cases.

* Depending on the needs of the Facility other areas of responsibility include visual inspection of some medical equipment such as CPAP machines.

 
Cleaning of equipment
* Maintains working knowledge of cleaning chemicals to ensure proper dilution and established usage, and abides by all safety personal protective equipment.

* Maintains working knowledge of cleaning technicians for each type of equipment.

 
Compliance/Safety
* Responsible for reporting any safety-related incident in a timely fashion through the Midas/RDE tool; attends all safety-related training programs; performs work in a safe manner; monitors work environment for possible safety issues and ensures others are also performing work in a safe manner.

* Stays current and complies with state and federal regulations/statutes and company policies that impact the employee's area of responsibility.

* If required for the position, ensures all certifications and/or licenses are up-to-date and valid prior to expiration dates.

* Completes all company mandatory modules and required job-specific training in the specified time frame.

* Reports any safety or security issues to department management.

* Completes Infection Prevention training at Northern Arizona Healthcare.

Qualifications

Education
High School Diploma, GED or equivalent experience - Required

 


Certification & Licensures
Employee will obtain and maintain appropriate clinical competencies for the roles assigned by their departmental leader.

 


Experience
Previous experience in direct patient care facility- Preferred

 

Medical Terminology- Preferred

 

Healthcare is a rapidly changing environment and technology is integrated into almost all aspects of patient care. Computers and other electronic devices are utilized across the organization and throughout each department. Colleagues must have an understanding of computers, and competence in using computers and basic software programs.
