The Anesthesia Technician 3 acts as a Daily Team Leader. S/he coordinates daily with the charge nurse to manage and allocate the Anesthesia Technician team based on case load and staffing, is in charge of precepting all new hires, and conducts new and continuing education monthly, quarterly and annually.
The Anesthesia Technician 3 has more presence in the cardiovascular department by placing and monitoring 12-lead ECGs, troubleshooting hemodynamic monitoring in the heart room and assisting providers during transesophageal Echocardiogram procedures (TEE).
S/he will be educated and trained on the use and troubleshooting of Impella devices and Intra-Aortic Balloon Pumps (IABP).
Before performing new responsibilities, this position requires successful completion of a competency-based training program with the following components:

Patient Care
* Assists in intubations including difficult airways.
* Uses aseptic and sterile technique to prep, assist with placement and secure all catheter placements performed by licensed anesthesia providers, including IVs, arterial lines, central lines, RICs and floating Swan-Ganz catheters.
* Sets up blood warmer and adult IV fluid lines.
* Performs trauma response and runs Arterial Blood Gases (ABG) and Venous Blood Gases (VBG) and Activated Clotting Time (ACT).
* Places and monitors 12 lead ECGs, troubleshoots hemodynamic monitor in heart room and assists providers during Transesophageal Echocardiogram procedures (TEE).
* Uses and troubleshoots Impella devices and intra-Aortic Balloon Pump.
Operations
* Ensures all operating suites are fully stocked with anesthesia supplies.
* Makes available, assembles, and assists with the operation of specialized equipment.
* Assist surgical suites staff with room set up and turn over assistance.
* Sets up OR for demanding cases (according to licensing restrictions).
* Prepares and assembles software and operates the autotransfusion equipment.
* Maintains patient records for all procedures utilizing intraoperative autotransfusion.
* Provides an estimate of blood loss via autotransfusion unit and total volume reinfused.
Equipment Care
* Collaborates with Biomed to assure equipment is functioning and loaner equipment is available.
* Assists anesthesia staff with equipment.
Compliance/Safety
* Responsible for reporting any safety-related incident in a timely fashion through the Midas/RDE tool; attends all safety-related training programs; performs work in a safe manner; monitors work environment for possible safety issues and ensures others are also performing work in a safe manner.
* Stays current and complies with state and federal regulations/statutes and company policies that impact the employee's area of responsibility.
* If required for the position, ensures all certifications and/or licenses are up-to-date and valid prior to expiration dates.
* Completes all company mandatory modules and required job-specific training in the specified time frame.
Education
High School Diploma or GED or equivalent experience - Required
Certification & Licensures
BLS (American Heart Association only) – Required prior to performing independent patient care or within 60 days after hired.
ACLS (American Heart Association only)/RQI - Required prior to performing independent patient care or within 90 days after hired.
Note: ACLS/RQI will be completed prior to release from FMC's AT 2 training program
Certified Anesthesia Technologist - Preferred
