Overview

The Hospital Security Educator and Trainer plays a crucial role in ensuring the safety and security of patients, staff, and visitors within a hospital or healthcare facility. A Safety and Security Educator is responsible for developing and delivering training programs and educational initiatives to enhance the security awareness and preparedness of hospital personnel with an added focus to the education for the recognition, prevention, and response to workplace violence.

Responsibilities

Training Program Development
* Design, develop, and implement security training programs and materials tailored to the specific needs and challenges of a healthcare environment. This may include emergency response, active shooter drills, access control, and more.


 
Instruction
* Conduct training sessions for hospital employees, including security personnel, medical staff, and administrative staff. Ensure that all training is engaging, informative, and aligns with hospital policies and procedures.


 
Security Procedures
* Educate staff on hospital security policies, procedures, and protocols to ensure they understand and adhere to safety measures. This includes proper identification procedures, access control, and patient confidentiality.


 
Emergency Preparedness
* Provide training on how to respond to various emergency situations, such as fires, natural disasters, medical emergencies, and security threats, ensuring that staff are well-prepared to handle crises effectively.


 
Security Technology
* Familiarize hospital staff with security technologies and systems, such as CCTV cameras, alarm systems, and access control, and train them on how to use these tools effectively.


 
Legal Compliance
* Stay up-to-date with relevant laws and regulations related to hospital security and ensure that training programs comply with these requirements.


 
Continuing Education
* Develop and maintain ongoing education programs to keep hospital staff informed about evolving security threats and best practices.


 
Assessment
* Conduct security assessments and drills to evaluate the effectiveness of training programs and identify areas for improvement.


 
Documentation
* Maintain accurate records of training activities, attendance, and evaluation results, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.


 
Compliance/ Safety
* If required for position, ensures all certifications and/or licenses are up-to-date and valid prior to expiration dates.

* Completes all company mandatory modules and required job specific training in the specified time frame.

*Responsible for reporting any safety related incident in a timely fashion through the Midas/RDE tool; attends all safety related training programs; performs work in a safe manner; monitors work environment for possible safety issues and ensures others are also performing work in a safe manner.

*Responsible for maintaining up-to-date knowledge of cybersecurity trends, developments, best practices and regulatory changes.

Qualifications

Education
Education: A bachelor's degree in a related field (e.g., criminal justice, security management, education) - Preferred

 


Certification & Licensures
AVADE workplace violence prevention instructor

 


Experience
Previous experience in healthcare security, law enforcement, or security training is preferred.

Healthcare is a rapidly changing environment and technology is integrated into almost all aspects of patient care. Computers and other electronic devices are utilized across the organization and throughout each department. Colleagues must have an understanding of computers, and competence in using computers and basic software programs.
