We are looking for an excellent Nurse Practitioner to work with our Anesthesiologists and Surgeons in our Pre-Admission Clinic at Flagstaff Medical Center. You will work on pre-op assessments, evaluations, and plan of care for possible high-risk patients of all ages.

You’ll bring:

Licensed Family Practice ARNP with AZ license or ability to be licensed. Experience in Surgery or Anesthesia and Hospital Experience a plus.

Responsibilities

The Nurse Practitioner in the preadmission clinic will provide expert knowledge in the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care for patients who have been scheduled for surgery. Working with anesthesiologists and surgeons, the NP will determine appropriate workup, follow up, and ongoing assessment and care of patients in the perioperative process. S/he will maintain communication with surgeons and anesthesiologists throughout the preadmission process and work as a part of the nursing team in the preadmission clinic. The NP will seek assistance and support when necessary, organize those aspects of care for which s/he is responsible, and maintain accountability for his/her own practice and those functions s/he delegates. This position cares for patients throughout the lifespan, from infants to the elderly.

 

 

Communication
* Communicates with surgeons and anesthesiologists to develop standards of care for pre-surgical patients regarding medication management, diagnostic testing, results interpretation, and consults/referrals.

* Collaborates with anesthesiologists and surgeons to optimize patient readiness for surgery and anesthesia.

* Communicates plan of care with preadmissions nursing staff and updates it as appropriate. Works with the preadmissions charge nurse to ensure testing/treatment has occurred before the day of surgery as appropriate.
 
Patient Care
* Documents assessments, interventions, and patient responses.

* Communicates and documents patient/family learning needs.

* Functions as an Advanced Practice Nurse in the pre-admission clinic, responsible for the assessment of pre-surgical patients and the initiation and interpretation of diagnostic testing relevant and appropriate to the surgery being done.

* Orders and interprets laboratory, radiological, cardiac, pulmonary, and any other relevant testing for patients undergoing surgery.

* Reviews patient medications, including prescribing and refers back to ordering provider as needed.
 
Education
* Supports the staff in outreach education.

* Participates in quality initiatives and performance improvement.
 
Compliance/Safety
* Responsible for reporting any safety related incident in a timely fashion through the Midas/RDE tool; attends all safety related training programs; performs work in a safe manner; monitors work environment for possible safety issues and ensures others are also performing work in a safe manner.

* Adheres to regulatory and organizational standards affecting patient care and safety as well as all hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Practices in a safe and cost effective manner.

* Stays current and complies with state and federal regulations/statutes and company policies that impact the employees area of responsibility.

* If required for position, ensures all certifications and/or licenses are up-to-date and valid prior to expiration dates.

* Completes all company mandatory modules and required job specific training in the specified time frame.

* Demonstrates and utilizes the guidelines of care and practice via the nursing process and in accordance with Arizona State Board of Nursing laws and regulations.

Qualifications

Education
 
Master's in Nursing- Required

Graduate from Accredited Family Nurse Practitioner Program- Required
 
Certification & Licensures

Current AZ APRN license as Family Nurse Practitioner- Required

AANC or AANP certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner- Required

Employee will obtain and maintain appropriate clinical competencies for the roles assigned by their departmental leader.
 
Experience
 
2 years experience acute care and/or clinic- Preferred

Healthcare is a rapidly changing environment and technology is integrated into almost all aspects of patient care. Computers and other electronic devices are utilized across the organization and throughout each department. Colleagues must have an understanding of computers, and competence in using computers and basic software programs.
