Overview

The Lead Anesthesia Technician will oversee the Anesthesia Technician needs in the Anesthesia Department, including managing the schedule for the Anesthesia Technicians. Working directly with Biomed, the Lead Anesthesia Technician maintains all anesthesia equipment and ensures up to date work is performed. The Lead Anesthesia Technician works with all sales reps to keep current on potential upgrades and replacements as equipment nears end of life or new options become available.

During codes, traumas and other stat situations, the Lead Anesthesia Technician works with the charge nurse to assess and allocate resources to meet the needs of surgical services. The Lead Anesthesia Technician works directly anesthesiologist specialty leads to ensure that all providers have the means to provide optimal patient care. They work with the Anesthesia Technician specialty leads to ensure that any process improvement that needs to happen is completed.

The Lead Anesthesia Technician attends all OR and Anesthesia monthly staff meetings and present as needed. S/he works with our Education Team to schedule all necessary new employee education as well as continuing education (CE) for existing Anesthesia Technicians. S/he is responsible for all education and corresponding paperwork and digital trail to ensure compliance of education and documentation of the Anesthesia Technician team.

This position's work location is on site only.

Responsibilities

Leadership
* Manages the schedule, call schedule of the technicians and buddy call with techs in training.

* Works with charge nurse during codes, traumas and other stat situations to assess and allocate resources to meet the needs of surgical services.

* Orients and precepts new technicians as they start in the department.

* Works with vendors to keep current on potential upgrades and replacements as equipment nears end of life or new options become available.

* Works with the Education Team to ensure all education, corresponding paperwork and digital trail of the Anesthesia Technician team is compliant.

* Works with Biomed to ensure all anesthesia equipment is maintained and up to date work is performed.

* Works with the Anesthesiologist and OR Educator to assure competencies of the anesthesia technicians are current and complete.

* Department liaison for OR departments. Rounds in the OR, CVICU, ICU and L&D to keep current on inventory of anesthesia equipment, provide education or assistance as directed or identified.

* Ensures all staff participates in daily huddles.
 
Patient Care
* Assists and anticipates needs of Anesthesiologist in invasive monitor insertion and procedures such as pulmonary artery catheter, fiber optic intubation and/or difficult airway situation, and cardiac output using the necessary equipment i.e., CVP, SWAN, cardiac output, and GEM.

* Assists anesthesia care provider with volume infusions as directed during intraoperative volume resuscitations.

* Proper preparation, and maintenance of intravenous catheters as per protocol and standards set by hospital policy, AMMI and AORN recommendations.

* Aids in preparation of patients for major invasive monitoring and/or difficult cases including but not limited to placement of BP cuff, ECG leads, Pulseoximeter.

* Assists with monitoring and evaluation of auto transfusion service quality and effectiveness.
 
Equipment Care
* Maintains the cleanliness and organizes the anesthesia environment, workrooms equipment, medications, inhalation agents and supplies (in a rotational fashion) to facilitate departmental function.

* Works with Biomed to assure equipment is functioning or loaner equipment is available.

* Assists anesthesia professional staff as requested, handles equipment and items correctly to ensure ever present usability and safety of supplies and material and maintain the availability of necessary equipment in each operating room.
 
Compliance/Safety
* Responsible for reporting any safety-related incident in a timely fashion through the Midas/RDE tool; attends all safety-related training programs; performs work in a safe manner; monitors work environment for possible safety issues and ensures others are also performing work in a safe manner.

* Stays current and complies with state and federal regulations/statutes and company policies that impact the employee's area of responsibility.

* If required for the position, ensures all certifications and/or licenses are up-to-date and valid prior to expiration dates.

* Completes all company mandatory modules and required job-specific training in the specified time frame.

Qualifications

Education
 
High school diploma or GED- Required
 
Certification & Licensures

BLS - Required

ACLS - Required

Certified Anesthesia Technologist - Preferred

Employee will obtain and maintain appropriate clinical competencies for the roles assigned by their departmental leader.
 
Experience
 
1 year of experience as an Anesthesia Technician 3 - Required

Cardiovascular Anesthesia Tech experience- Preferred

Healthcare is a rapidly changing environment and technology is integrated into almost all aspects of patient care. Computers and other electronic devices are utilized across the organization and throughout each department. Colleagues must have an understanding of computers, and competence in using computers and basic software programs.
