Overview

The Anesthesia Technician 2 assists in intubations including difficult airways while operating and troubleshooting all necessary airway tools and equipment. The Anesthesia Technician 2 uses aseptic and sterile techniques to prep, assist with placement and secure all catheter placements performed by licensed anesthesia providers including IVs, arterial lines, central lines, RICs and floating Swan-Ganz catheters, and sets up blood warmers and adult IV fluid lines. S/he provides trauma response and runs Arterial Blood Gasses (ABG), Venous Blood Gasses (VBG) and Activated Clotting Time (ACT), and assists in all heart cases.

Anesthesia Technician 2 will be trained in autotransfusion and rapid transfusion including Massive Transfusion Protocol (MTP).Graduates of the Anesthesia Technician training program will be proficient in all pediatric case needs including correct circuit selection, mask and bag size and proper priming of PEDs IV fluid line.

Before performing new responsibilities, this position requires successful completion of a competency-based training program with the following components:
1. Didactic - classroom instruction
2. Observation of procedures
3. Precepted experience
4. Skills assessment

ACLS/RQI will be completed prior to release from FMC's AT 2 Training Program.

This position's work location is on site only.
 

Responsibilities

Patient Care
* Assists in intubations including difficult airways.

* Uses aseptic and sterile technique to prep, assist with placement and secure all catheter placements performed by licensed anesthesia providers, including IVs, arterial lines, central lines, RICs and floating Swan-Ganz catheters.

* Sets up blood warmer and adult IV fluid lines.

* Performs trauma response and runs Arterial Blood Gases (ABG) and Venous Blood Gases (VBG) and Activated Clotting Time (ACT).

* Assists in all heart cases.
 
Operations
* Ensures all operating suites are fully stocked with anesthesia supplies.

* Makes available, assembles, and assists with the operation of specialized equipment.

* Assist the surgical suites staff with room set up and turn over assistance.

* Sets up OR for demanding cases (according to licensing restrictions).

* Prepares and assembles software and operates the autotransfusion equipment.

* Maintains patient records for all procedures utilizing intraoperative autotransfusion.

* Provides an estimate of blood loss via autotransfusion unit and total volume reinfused.
 
Equipment Care
* Collaborates with Biomed to assure equipment is functioning and loaner equipment is available.

* Assists anesthesia staff with equipment.
 
Compliance/Safety
* Responsible for reporting any safety-related incident in a timely fashion through the Midas/RDE tool; attends all safety-related training programs; performs work in a safe manner; monitors work environment for possible safety issues and ensures others are also performing work in a safe manner.

* Stays current and complies with state and federal regulations/statutes and company policies that impact the employee's area of responsibility.

* If required for the position, ensures all certifications and/or licenses are up-to-date and valid prior to expiration dates.

* Completes all company mandatory modules and required job-specific training in the specified time frame.

Qualifications

Education
 
High School Diploma or GED or equivalent experience - Required
 
Certification & Licensures

BLS – Required prior to performing independent patient care or within 60 days after hired.

ACLS/RQI - Required prior to performing independent patient care or within 90 days after hired.

Certified Anesthesia Technologist - Preferred

Employees will obtain and maintain appropriate clinical competencies for the roles assigned by their departmental leader.
 
Experience
 
1 year experience as an Anesthesia Technician - Preferred
