Overview

The Senior Quality Outcomes RN leads high reliability in clinical processes and performance. Performs continuous monitoring and assessment of key performance metrics, facilitates quality improvement activities and ensures successful implementation to achieve organizational targets. The Senior Quality Outcomes RN acts as an internal consultant to enhance value through quality improvement and innovation of systems. This position works directly with senior leaders, managers, clinicians and other staff to develop and implement improvements in quality, safety and efficiency. Supports the capabilities of managers, clinicians and administrators by providing evidence-based recommendations and knowledge of process improvement and change management techniques to accomplish specific objectives. Collaborates with the Director of Quality and the Quality Outcomes Manager to promote standard work processes within the Quality department and orchestrates team efforts to ensure that Quality RN products meet deadlines and expectations. Demonstrates mastery of Quality concepts and safety science principles and has experience applying those concepts and principles in a dynamic healthcare environment.
 

Responsibilities

Professional Engagement and Quality Leadership
* Engage in lifelong learning as a healthcare quality professional and participate in activities that build skills in evidence-based practice, process improvement and other key quality competencies

* Advance healthcare quality throughout the entire organization to achieve objectives such as annual initiative performance, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) measure excellence and accreditation or other regulatory standards of care.

* Oversee implementation of work being done by Quality Outcomes RNs in collaboration with the Quality Outcomes Manager focusing on standardization and optimization within the Quality department.

* Develop and implement orientation and training for new hire Quality Outcomes RNs to include standard skill set training and individualized training based on work assignment and individual experience.

* Implement processes that engage stakeholders and promote interprofessional teamwork.

* Establish and guide development and implementation of annual quality plans in collaboration with quality leadership, service line and process owners.

* Strategize with division, unit and service line leaders to coordinate quality improvement work for organizational alignment.

* Share knowledge and results of successful quality activities through written publications and presentations for peer groups in internal, external, national or international professional settings. Assist the Quality Outcomes RNs in developing and presenting such work in the same settings.

* Identify strengths and opportunities for growth in the Quality Outcomes RNs and collaborate with the Quality Outcomes manager in coaching them towards improvement and career development.

 
Quality Review and Accountability
* Implement review processes for peer-protected processes such as Ongoing Professional Practice Evaluation (OPPE), Safety Event analysis and Mortality and Morbidity (M&M).

* Use knowledge of the impact of healthcare payment models as they apply to quality measurement and improvement programs to develop quality plans and guide the business case for quality improvement efforts.

* Work with Quality Outcomes RNs to develop and communicate internal and external measure requirements including how quality work connects to strategic goals or ratings from external agencies such as CMS, Vizient, Leap Frog, and U.S. News and World Report.

 
Health Data Analytics and Performance and Process Improvement
* Leverage analytics, including statistical analysis and visualization, to guide data-driven decision making and inform quality improvement initiatives.

* Coach and mentor Quality Outcomes RNs and other stakeholders in appropriate data collection plans for key performance indicators as well as how to communicate results using narrative and visual tools (e.g. graphs, dashboards and scorecards) to provide a comprehensive context appropriate to the audience.

* Develop procedures for the governance of quality data assets and work with quality leadership to ensure consistent application of data governance procedures.

* Serve as a subject matter expert in process improvement and change management methods and how to select and apply those best suited to the problem or project.

* Review quality and process improvement projects being facilitated by the Quality Outcomes RNs for effective strategies and tactics as well as appropriate use of NAH process improvement tools and techniques.

* Apply project management methods to track progress on key quality initiatives and quality-led projects.

 
Compliance/Safety
* Responsible for reporting any safety related incident in a timely fashion through the Midas/RDE tool; attends all safety related training programs; performs work in a safe manner; monitors work environment for possible safety issues and ensures others are also performing work in a safe manner.

* Stays current and complies with state and federal regulations/statutes and company policies that impact the employees area of responsibility.

* If required for position, ensures all certifications and/or licenses are up-to-date and valid prior to expiration dates.

* Completes all company mandatory modules and required job specific training in the specified time frame.

Qualifications

Education
 
RNs hired on or after 7/1/2016: Must graduate from a BSN program within 6 years of hire into an RN position.
Existing Staff RNs: RNs hired before 7/1/2016 are not mandated to have a BSN, but are encouraged to pursue a BSN degree.
Masters in Nursing, Business Administration or Healthcare Related Field - Preferred
 
Certification & Licensures
 
Certification in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ)– Required

Certification in Process Improvement (Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt) – Required

Active, unrestricted, Arizona RN License or valid, participating compact license – Required

Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification - Preferred
 
Experience
 
5 or more years clinical practice experience in acute care, ambulatory care, healthcare related evidence-based practice, research or quality with at least 2 of those years in a healthcare quality or process improvement role - Required

Minimum of 1 year of experience as formal leader in local or system process improvement initiatives - Required

Experience mentoring and motivating colleagues to achieve practice excellence - Required

Experience networking with multiple healthcare professionals and identifying stakeholders when planning practice change - Required

Experience with statistical analysis, data management and ability to interpret data and implement change based on factual information - Required
