Overview

The Lead Communication Specialist/Technician, under the supervision of a designated Battalion Chief, is responsible for dispatching, coordinating ground transports, updating Communication Center procedures, office/clerical tasks, and preliminary ambulance billing tasks. Overall communications are via phone, radio, verbal, text and written word. The Lead Communication Specialist/Technician will be able to think and function independently as well as project a positive image as a customer representative at all times.

Responsibilities

Operations
* Utilizes all modes of communication to promote, maintain, and enhance ground ambulance operations.

* Obtains patient information from a variety of sources.

* Ensures rapid dispatch of ambulance crews, patient transport requirements, coordinates arrivals at residential/hospital pick up and drop off locations.

* Demonstrates ambulance following via radio and CAD to monitor safe ambulance response and safe resource allocation.

* Notifies receiving hospital of ground transport of ETAs.

* Skilled in the current systems utilized in the Communication Center.

* Dispatching techniques/terminology, ambulance transport following, and map geo-locating skills.

* Reports to a designated Battalion Chief.

* Acts as a Lead in the Communication Center, holding others accountable to job tasks, acting as a liaison with the Battalion Chief, promoting excellent dispatching services for our customers.

* Participates in designated Communication Center meetings with peers and GMT leadership.

* Promotes discussion and guidance recommendations with hiring Communication Specialist Technicians in conjunction with the Battalion Chief.

* Promotes discussion and guidance recommendations with new hire Communication Specialist Technicians training in conjunction with the Battalion Chief.

* Promotes discussion and guidance recommendations with performance improvement of Communication Specialist Technicians in conjunction with the Battalion Chief.

* Promotes discussion and guidance recommendations with gaps in dispatch operations in conjunction with the Battalion Chief.

* Perform other functions/tasks not specifically listed in the job description but required by sound administrative practices or management directives.

* Respond in a timely manner to all responsibilities and duties.

* Either by mandate or on call, respond to hard to fill shifts, call outs, etc to maintain minimum staffing requirements on a rotation basis with other Communication Specialist Technicians.

 
Documentation
* Utilizes the dispatch software for data entry, reports, dispatch voice recording retrieval and statistical retrieval.

* Obtain prior authorization as needed and prepare long distance transport quotes.

 
Compliance/Safety
* Responsible for reporting any safety related incident in a timely fashion through the Midas/RDE tool; attends all safety related training programs; performs work in a safe manner; monitors work environment for possible safety issues and ensures others are also performing work in a safe manner.

* Completes all company mandatory modules and required job specific training in the specified time frame.

* Stays current and complies with state and federal regulations/statutes and company policies that impact the employee's area of responsibility.

* If required for position, ensures all certifications and/or licenses are up-to-date and valid prior to expiration dates.

EMS/Medical Background – Preferred

Ambulance Dispatching Experience - Required

Healthcare is a rapidly changing environment and technology is integrated into almost all aspects of patient care. Computers and other electronic devices are utilized across the organization and throughout each department. Colleagues must have an understanding of computers, and competence in using computers and basic software programs.
