The Supervisor of Health Information Management (HIM) will help oversee, develop, implement, and coordinate aspects of health information management. The HIM Supervisor protects the security of the medical records to ensure that the confidentiality of patient information is maintained and that the HIM policies and procedures are consistently applied. The position is responsible for the supervision and oversight of employees performing HIM-related activities. The HIM Supervisor will ensure all workflows are customer-focused, while building and maintaining a strong partnership with our physicians, operating within CMS and Joint Commission regulations and standards. Build effective working relationships with other departments to ensure the timely resolution of any issues within these workflows.

Responsibilities

Operations Leadership
* Monitor daily HIM workflow, determine work assignments as pertinent.

* Responsible for internal and external department requests for missing documentation.

* Help conduct new hire training and ongoing team training sessions.

* Performs department audits.

* Assists HIM manager with special projects.

* Build and maintain a strong partnership with our providers.

* Build effective working relationships with all departments.

* Serves as the Operational Lead during the HIM Manager's absence.

* Assists in the rollout and management of employee engagement initiatives.

* Facilitates administrative functions for HIM/Coding leadership to include meeting preparation, presentation drafting, and communication.

* Operate within CMS and Joint Commission regulations and standards.

* Oversees the Patient and Provider Portals.

* Assists with EMPI.

*Assist with hiring, corrective actions, performance reviews, mid-years, and employee engagement results.
 
Data Integrity
* Oversee maintenance, appraisal, and update of storage inventory and destruction of records.

* Prepare statistical reports as needed and report key performance metrics as needed.

* Help manage the deficiency process to comply with Medical Staff Bylaws and Rules and Regulations.

* Set and maintain department goals for error reduction and productivity.

* Monitor and report key performance indicators, staff productivity, including accuracy, timeliness, and quality of work.

* Assists Director and HIM managers with tracking of overall HIM budget monthly and review for accuracy in billing and allocations, review HIM invoices.
 
Compliance/Safety
* Responsible for reporting any safety-related incident in a timely fashion through the Midas/RDE tool; attends all safety-related training programs;performs work in a safe manner; monitors work environment for possible safety issues and ensures others are also performing work in a safe manner.

* Stays current and complies with state and federal regulations/statutes and company policies that impact the employee's area of responsibility.

* If required for the position, ensures all certifications and/or licenses are up-to-date and valid prior to expiration dates.

* Completes all company mandatory modules and required job-specific training in the specified time frame.

Qualifications

Education
  • High School Diploma or GED- Required
 
Experience
  • 5 years experience in an acute care facility with experience directly related to Health Information Management (HIM)- Required
  • 1 year experience with hospital based electronic medical records- Required
  • Computer skills- Required
  • Previous Management/Supervisor experience- Preferred

Certification & Licensures
  •  
  • RHIA or RHIT- Preferred
 
Healthcare is a rapidly changing environment and technology is integrated into almost all aspects of patient care. Computers and other electronic devices are utilized across the organization and throughout each department. Colleagues must have an understanding of computers, and competence in using computers and basic software programs.
