The Lead Antimicrobial Stewardship Pharmacist is responsible for oversight and overall effectiveness of the antimicrobial stewardship program (ASP) at NAH facilities and entities. The purpose of the ASP is to provide a collaborative, interdisciplinary system for optimization of antibiotic use at NAH, improve drug selection, slow the emergence of antimicrobial resistance, reduce antimicrobial expenditures, and improve patient outcomes. The ASP Lead Pharmacist will work collaboratively to improve patient outcomes and safety by means of review of anti-infective use at NAH through clinical interventions, guideline and protocol development, reporting systems, education, and the improvement of antimicrobial drug utilization. The activities of the ASP Lead pharmacist will be coordinated by the Department of Pharmacy leadership and Infectious Diseases in collaboration with the Laboratory/Microbiology Department, the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee, Infection Prevention, Quality, and Clinical Performance Committees. Responsibilities include (but are not limited to) daily assessment of patient-specific infectious disease plans, collaborating with providers, overseeing, educating, and directing the pharmacist team in the specialty area, and addressing work flow issues and process improvement. Acts in a collaborative role with the medical and hospital staff. Continuous involvement in various interdisciplinary committees for protocol development and implementation. Provides pharmaceutical care and participates in dispensing activities as needed. Maintains responsibility for education of pharmacists, pharmacy residents, and pharmacy students as it relates to infectious diseases.
